How do I take care of a small potted barrel cactus?

It'll do just fine inside. Sunlight is preferable but not required. Water is maybe once a month. If you live in a desert, it'll do fine outside. It needs hard soil, not a lot of rain, and sunlight. I've had one on my desk at work for about a year now and it's doing just fine inside.
