Do you think he wants me or not?

I fooled around with this guy for about a year. I (mistakenly) never knew what the terms of our relationship was. I did some very hurtful things to him and him to me. We started being off and on and finally off but he still e-mails or comes around every now and than. We're not having . As a matter of fact the last time he came over he didn't even try to touch me. I just don't understand why he won't just leave me alone. I'm cool with it if he wants to come and be apart of my life and us have some terms of our relationship but i can't take this in and out off and on.
