What do I do with the sand that was under my above ground pool?

I just tore down my above ground pool. I live in VT and have clay like soil. Should I spread the sand evenly over my lawn? Because the sand helps with drainage? Should I get rid of the sand? What is the best way to turn the spot where the pool was into lawn?
